Lois (Youree) Akers
Beth's mother and uncle had attended Belleview and she followed in their foot steps! Beth's own words "I cherish the memories of country school"
Ervin went to Belleview his first and second grades the years of 1936 and 1937. He is pictured in one of the historic pictures of the students and teachers in front of the school door, dated 1937.
Imogene attended 4th grade through 8th grades at Belleview school. Her words: "Wonderful Memories at Belleview!"
Corrine and her brother James Allen Corzine III attended grade school at Belleview school. As well as their father before them named James A. Corzine Jr. Corrine's descendants have been found in numerous places within the school records and school board minutes over a generation or 2!
Melvin went to Belleview with his brother Clifford and is pictured in one of the historic pictures of the students and teachers in front of the school door, dated 1937 along with Ervin L. Urban. That picture was provided by Melvin himself!! THANK YOU!!!! Melvin also attended school district 99 Knowledge Hill along with his brother Cliffordd pictured next.
Clifford remembers walking home after school approximately 3 miles. He attended approximately years 1947-53. He has good memories of going to school in one room schools all 8 grades! He also attended school district 99 Knowledge Hill along with his brother Melvin pictured above.
Leroy has pointed out his initial carvings throughout Belleview! He has also told us about his stories of his orneriness! LOL
Gene attended the Belleview school just before it closed the school year of 1955-1956!
Gloria says that she attended the Belleview Schoolhouse in her first grade year. Her and her sister Delores kindly donated 2 original school desks that were used in Belleview!
Delores Ann (Metzinger) Brown
Memories Delores spoke of:
Delores attended the Belleview School all 8 grades.
She walked 1 1/2 miles to school from the farm everyday.
Delores and others enjoyed sledding from back of the school across the road into Hovorka's field!
Dad and neighbor's started the stove in the mornings before students came. The teacher lived with neighbors. One year, some of the boys tore the headliner out of a teacher's model A coupe car and the parents all got together and fixed it. That teacher never returned.
Games we played: Red rover, red rover come over; Drop the Handkerchief; ring a round the rosey; softball and choosing sides.
On the last day of school we would have a picnic and all the parents brought pot luck meals!
Dale attended Belleview for 1st and 2nd grades before the school closed the school year of 1955-56.
Left to right:
Paul Metzinger (ooops forgot to set him in his seat for a picture! Visited 7-20-2021)
Dale Metzinger
Gloria (Metzinger) Meyer
Paul Miller went by Gordon Miller and attended the Belleview school from Spring of 1941 to fall of 1943. He attended 6th and 7th grades.
Lois attended 1st grade and 4th through 8th grades in the Spring Creek school as a student.
Lois Akers was ALSO a school teacher inside of Spring Creek!
Later on in war times there was a shortage of teachers so she got to teach in the Spring Creek the school year of 1945-46. It was a pleasure to have her back inside of her school!!
A memory she shared was that during the winter that she taught school, her dad came to the school early to help get the wood stove going for the day!
